CAMPARI REVEALS EXHIBITIONS, PARTNERSHIPS AND COMMISSIONS TO SUPPORT EMERGING ARTISTS AND INSPIRE PROVOCATIVE CONVERSATIONS

House of Campari program continues with new exhibitions, artist commissions and partnerships with renowned visual arts organizations LA><ART, Artists Space and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts

LOS ANGELES (May 11, 2007) – Campari, the one-of-a-kind spirit, announced today new artistic endeavors to continue its efforts to support and highlight the work of emerging artists through exhibitions, commissions and programs that inspire dialogue and provide a platform for cutting-edge artists to share their passion. These programs include a continuation of Campari’s landmark House of Campari program, with emerging, visual arts exhibitions in New York and Los Angeles; the debut of Campari Commissions, a unique program designed to showcase a commissioned work by House of Campari alumni in New York and Los Angeles; and partnerships with leading arts organizations Artists Space in New York, LA><Art in Los Angeles and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

“Campari continues to increase its support of the visual arts community in the spirit of our longstanding tradition of arts patronage and commitment to bold expression,” said Lynn Lackey, Brand Manager for Campari. “With extraordinary partners, new means to support the work of emerging artists and new exhibitions, we are looking forward to a year filled with provocative art and memorable experiences.”

House of Campari is a cultural destination highlighting and supporting the work of emerging visual artists in a variety of media including: painting, photography, sculpture and drawing. The title exhibition “Distinctive Messengers”, curated for Campari by Simon Watson and Craig Hensala of Scenic, features a selection of provocative emerging visual artists from some of the most visionary galleries offering fresh creative expression. As in years previous, each participating artist will have had their first solo exhibition in the past season or will have it in the upcoming season.

The upcoming House of Campari exhibition will feature emerging artists from Los Angeles galleries and the New York exhibition will feature artists from New York-based galleries. House of Campari will host a series of exclusive events with non-profit arts organizations and high-profile partners that include performances by emerging musicians and performance artists, featuring a brief and rare installation of the renowned Scope Art Fair’s)Perpetual Art Machine [PAM]. [PAM], a living archive of 21st century video art organized by Lee Wells, Raphaele Shirley, Chris Borkowski and Aaron Miller, combines touch screen and projection technology to give users an interactive video experience, with access to over 1000 videos, from more than 700 international artists, from over 70 countries.

The third annual House of Campari Los Angeles opens on May 18th at 405 N. Robertson Blvd. in West Hollywood with free public gallery hours Tuesdays through Sundays from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. A new House of Campari exhibition will open in New York in the fall.

The 2007 debut of House of Campari in Los Angeles will mark the premiere of modern Campari’s first artist commission program. The goals of the Campari Commissions Initiative are to provide financial support for artists to create significant new works of art, provide exhibition opportunities for showing the work, and then to donate the artworks to appropriate museums.

Campari’s first US-based commission will be awarded to House of Campari Los Angeles 2006 alum Nathan Mabry. Mabry lives and works in Los Angeles, where he is shown at Cherry and Martin. Mabry is creating a drawing on Mylar with crystals titled, “Mosaic Mask (XXX), 2007″. The work is part of a series of colored pencil drawings of Miztec mosaic masks. Mabry adds a modern twist to the masks by encrusting the teeth with Swarovski crystals.

Another commission will be awarded to a New York-based House of Campari artist and alumni for Campari’s New York House of Campari program. The commissioned artworks will be shown with House of Campari exhibitions in their respective cities.

Campari has additionally partnered with three distinctive visual arts organizations to develop customized arts experiences for various communities such as Artists Space in New York, LA><ART in Los Angeles and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Artists Space will feature a Campari Project Space that will host five different exhibitions pairing together the work of an emerging artist with a curatorial essay about the work by an emerging writer. LA><ART will be co-hosting a six-part Campari Talks series highlighting an exhibition or showcasing a performance in conjunction with the opening of their exhibitions in Culver City, California. In San Francisco, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts will host a three-part curator led discussion series, bringing together artists, curators, gallerists and performers to discuss topics including artist practices, the art world, studio and business concerns, collector guidance and will allow guests to interact on an intimate level with noted figures from the arts community. Campari will also work with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts to co-host a lounge for its top donors at several gallery openings throughout the year.

Campari’s visual arts programs run concurrently to its “Passion Posters” initiative, Campari’s first national advertising campaign in the United States during the last decade created by noted visual artist Matthew Rolston. As part of Campari’s integrated Passion Campaign and support of the arts, the “Hotel Campari” endeavor features an exciting collaboration of modern Campari artists, famed photographers Mario Testino, Matthew Rolston and internationally renowned Salma Hayek. Campari’s acclaimed art posters and creative campaigns have featured the work of numerous accomplished artists throughout the decades including included Rolston, Enrico Sacchetti, Leonetto Cappiello, Fortunato Depero, Milton Glaser, and Bruno Munari, whose original contribution is now part of the New York Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection.
